Taryn has always had a passion for and been involved in some kind of sport. In school she participated in athletics, tennis and squash. Taryn graduated from Varsity College with a diploma in Travel and Tourism, but decided to move to the bush when she got the opportunity to work at Phinda Private Game Reserve. Even while isolated in rural Zululand, Taryn would get her colleagues involved in exercise from running on Sodwana Bay Road to doing aerobic classes.
Taryn moved back to the city in 2003 and joined a gym as part of her quest to get fitter and took up running on a more serious basis. When the gym stopped pushing Taryn’s limits she joined a Bootcamp. In October 2010, a friend of hers told her about Crossfit. Taryn who is always up for a challenge decided to give Crossfit a try in January 2011.
“The combination of functional movements with high intensity and group sessions forced me to challenge myself to a higher level. My body composition changed and athletic ability transformed and therefore my self esteem became palpable and this experience led me to want to share the virtues of Crossfit with others.”
Taryn completed her Level 1 Certification in February 2013 and went on to intern and coach at CrossFit DBN North. Over the years Taryn has become qualified as a Level 2 CrossFit Trainer, attend the CF Gymnastics course, qualified gym instructor and first aider as well as attending various kettlebell, gymnastics and weightlifting seminars. She is now co-owner of CrossFit DBN West.
